The David Smethurst Family
Full Recovery Fund

Team Smot Donor List

The most frequently asked question about Smot's condition is "Is there anything I can do to help?" The answer is "YES". Dave's recovery is going to be a long and expensive road. Other than visiting, writing and praying, the most effective way you can help is by donating to the "Recovery Fund".

Smot is doing his job by recovering from the accident. His family is doing their part by dropping everything and being there for him. As his friends, our job is to pitch in and help Dave and his family fund the recovery.

The size of the donation does not matter. As you can see from this website, Dave has an incredible number of friends. If we all give within our means, Dave will be able to receive the best possible care and therapy - which is exactly what he we all want for him. If you would like to see a list of current donors, please click Team Smot Donor List.

It will be a long and expensive process. Expenses incurred by the family will include, but not be limited to, airfare, lodging, meals, and recovery costs not covered by insurance etc. It is impossible to quantify the total costs of these expenses, due to several variables (such as time), so we are raising funds assuming a lengthy recovery.

Although the minimum donation does not matter, current tax law prohibits gifts over $9,999 per listed family member. In other words, each individual donor (which includes businesses and other entities) is permitted to give up to $9,999 to each member of the Smethurst family without causing a taxable event. Unlike charitable donations, these gifts are not tax deductible to the donor.

Each of the following members of the Smethurst family will be named on the account and thus will each be eligible to receive up to $9,999 per donor :

  • David Smethurst
  • Robert Smethurst (father)
  • Johanna Smethurst (mother)
  • James Smethurst (brother)
  • Katherine Smethurst Bell (sister)
  • Brooke Bell (brother in-law)
